Early on in our journey, we had the privilege of meeting two extraordinary individuals, Rubyn and Christy.
Rubyn is originally from California and has faced houselessness on and off throughout his life. Despite the hardships, he carries himself with dignity and determination. He shared that he doesn’t want handouts but instead seeks resources that can help him better himself and get back on track. His dream is to return to work, rejuvenate his life, and create a future he can be proud of.
Christy, a native of Arizona, has been houseless for quite some time but is making incredible strides toward building a brighter future. She has recently achieved 10 weeks of sobriety and takes drug tests at a nearby city building to stay on her path of recovery. With a positive outlook and unwavering faith, Christy believes that "everyone has a stretch of hardship in their lives, and hers happens to be houselessness." She carries a strong conviction that God wouldn’t give her a challenge she couldn’t handle.
Rubyn and Christy are truly special souls, and meeting them was a humbling reminder of the resilience and strength that lies within every individual. We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with them and wish them both nothing but the best on their journeys forward.
